Cooling Tower Painting & Refurbishment

Case Study: Automotive Industry, London Area

Completed 2024

Introduction

DHD was engaged to refurbish two Carter Buckingham Cooling Towers at an engine manufacturing plant.

The existing fill pack and drift eliminators had deteriorated, and the cooling tower's internal surfaces required repainting due to corrosion.

The Challenge

Severe corrosion was discovered on the internal walls of the cooling towers, requiring extensive surface preparation before repainting.

Upon removal of the fill pack and drift eliminators, it was found that the steel supports holding the distribution system were heavily corroded and unsafe.

DHD swiftly manufactured and delivered new stainless-steel support beams within a few days to keep the project on schedule.

The entire refurbishment, including repainting and installation of new components, had to be completed within a two-week window.

The Solution

DHD applied a specialist two-part epoxy paint, designed for damp environments and capable of curing even after immersion—ideal for cooling tower applications. After surface preparation and painting:

New Stainless-Steel Support Beams were installed to ensure long-term structural integrity.

New Fill Pack & Drift Eliminators were fitted to enhance cooling efficiency and reduce drift emissions.

The Benefits

DHD ensured:

Timely Material Delivery: All necessary materials were on-site ahead of time to maintain project momentum.

Safe & Efficient Execution: The refurbishment was completed within the client’s timeframe, adhering to strict safety standards.

Extended Equipment Lifespan: The cooling towers were restored to optimal working condition, reducing the risk of future failures and downtime.

The successful refurbishment showcases DHD’s expertise in cooling tower refurbishment and maintenance, delivering durable, high-performance solutions.
