Cooling Tower Painting & Refurbishment

Case Study: Office Building, South Wales

Completed 2021

Introduction

DHD was engaged to refurbish two GOHL cooling towers at an office building.

The fill pack and drift eliminators had deteriorated over time, and the internal surfaces required repainting due to corrosion.

The Challenge

The cooling towers were located on the roof of a 15-story building, posing logistical challenges for material transport.

Materials had to be swiftly loaded and unloaded via the goods lift to avoid disruption to other building users.

The internal walls of the cooling tower were severely corroded and required extensive surface preparation before applying a protective coating.

The entire refurbishment needed to be completed within one week.

The Solution

DHD utilized a specialist two-part epoxy paint, formulated for damp environments and capable of curing even after immersion—ideal for cooling tower applications. After surface preparation and painting:

New Fill Pack & Drift Eliminators were installed to restore cooling efficiency.

Corrosion Protection Measures were implemented to extend the lifespan of the towers.

The Benefits

DHD ensured:

Timely Material Delivery: All required materials were on-site before work commenced.

Safe & Efficient Execution: The refurbishment was completed within the client’s timeframe while maintaining safety protocols.

Extended Equipment Life: The cooling towers were restored to optimal condition, ensuring continued reliable operation.

The successful refurbishment highlights DHD’s capability to execute complex cooling tower projects safely and efficiently.
