Introduction
DHD was appointed to carry out a full clean and refurbishment of a large timber Cooling Tower at a power generation site in the North West.
The works included the safe removal of silts and debris, as well as the installation of new high-efficiency Drift Eliminators to ensure compliance with UK regulations.
The Challenge
Tower had not been cleaned for an extended period due to production demands.
Complex internal structure required specialist access and cleaning methods.
Cold Water Basin contained significant silt build-up requiring safe removal.
The Solution
To deliver the project safely and efficiently, DHD supplied a skilled cooling tower cleaning team supported by diesel-powered pressure washers:
Safe Access: Youngman boarding used to provide secure entry to all areas.
Risk Control: Robust systems for confined space entry and working at height.
System Upgrade: New high-efficiency Drift Eliminators installed to improve performance and compliance.
The Benefits
DHD ensured:
Timely Completion: All works completed in the timeframe required by the client.
Legislative Compliance: Replacing the Drift Eliminators allowed the client to remain compliant to the latest legislation governing Cooling Towers in the UK.
Safe & Efficient Execution: Detailed RAMS issued prior to mobilisation, and personnel worked safely and efficiently.
Detailed Reporting: While the Cooling Tower was offline for the cleaning works, a detailed inspection report was generated so that preventative maintenance measures could be implemented and to give piece of mind to the client on the system condition.
The project was completed to the client’s full satisfaction. By combining expert cooling tower cleaning services with refurbishment works, DHD helped the plant improve system efficiency, maintain compliance, and extend asset life.
