Introduction

DHD was engaged to repack a two-cell field-erected Marley Cooling Tower at a paper mill. The existing fill pack had become extremely brittle over time, necessitating a full replacement.

Additionally, cleaning works were carried out to maintain system efficiency and prevent contamination.

The Challenge

Safety Considerations: Due to the large field-erected design of the cooling tower, stringent health and safety measures were required.

Secure Working Platform: Youngman Boards were utilised to create a safe working environment for personnel inside the cooling tower.

Fall Protection: All personnel wore fall restraint harnesses and lanyards to minimise the risk of falls.

Efficient Material Handling: New materials were transported to the cooling tower using a telehandler, while old materials were efficiently disposed of in site skips.

Coordination with Client: The project required careful logistics planning to ensure skips were loaded and replaced promptly, preventing delays.

New Polypropylene Fill Pack: Installed according to the original thermal specifications to optimise cooling performance.

Comprehensive Cleaning Services: Ensuring no contaminants remained in the process water system, preventing potential blockages in circulating pumps.
